Budget reaction

Suleman Khonat, the National Spokesperson of the Tobacco Retailers’ Alliance and a retailer from Blackburn commented:

“The 35p tax increase on a pack of 20 cigarettes is very disappointing. Tobacco tax is already far too high and this additional excise measure will only allow for the illegal tobacco trade to flourish, taking business away from hard-pressed legitimate retailers. This latest tax hike combined with the ban on smaller packs of cigarettes and hand rolling tobacco does not bode well for the future of small independent retailers.”
